WHAT ABOUT THIS NEW EVENT & ENTERTAINMENT ONLINE TRAINING

If you work in the Event and Entertainment discipline, you may be eligible for the new E&E certification. This class is online instead of contact like the Unarmed certification. The E&E certification will NOT allow you to work in other disciplines of security. You can contact DPSST or your Executive to see if you're eligible for this new certification type.

WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATION?

Private Security Providers (Officers) are required by DPSST and the Board to complete a 14 hr basic security course prior to application for certification. The course requires a test to pass. DPSST requires a background check for all applicants. Application materials are submitted to DPSST in Salem, Oregon. Upon completion of the background check, a certification card will be mailed to the provider.

IS THIS CERTIFICATION REALLY NECESSARY?

Yes. It has been the standard since around 1997. All security disciplines in Oregon are required to have it including bars, hospitals, malls and retail, to name a few. Anyone who is working a primary job as security must be certified. Working in security without certification may result in civil or criminal issues.

CAN I CHECK THE STATUS OF MY CERTIFICATION?

Yes. DPSST has a system available online to check the current status of your certification or license. The Information Records Inquiry System, or IRIS, will allow you to see if you're valid, expired, have pending deficiencies, training record and who you are allowed to be providing Private Security services to.

WHAT ARE OTHER AVAILABLE CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES?

Once you've completed your Unarmed Training, you can attend the Armed Officer Training. Some others may need to attend the Supervisory Manager or Executive Training or the Instructor Training.
